Summary and Suggestion

Purposes of practicum

The purposes of practicum is to develop our teaching skills and pedagogy, improve English skill, gain a broader regional and world view and prepared being a good teacher in the future. I learn a lot from my mentor, coordinator, the students, my friends, my buddies, and Thai citizens. Now I know, how to teach English in a modern way and make students understand and pay attention to us, how to manage classroom and manage a time, and prepared me being a better to enter the real world after this internship program. I also have learned and appreciated the different religious and culture during the exchange.
Procedures of practicum

The duration of practicum is one month. I had a lot of new experiences and activities during this program. First week is orientation and observation. We observed the school and our mentor while he taught in the classroom then starting to construct a lesson plan based on Curriculum and school syllabus. Second week is teaching assistant. We helped the teacher (my mentor) and cooperating with students in the classroom. Third week is teaching practice and last week is evaluation and reflection. In our free day, our coordinator also took us for excursion.
Outcomes of practicum

This exchange project helped me to improve my English skill besides improve my teaching skill and pedagogy. I become matured and well prepared to facing a real world. I can solve unforeseen problem. No nervous and no trembling anymore. Right now, I become a totally confident person and here are things that I felt improved:
1.      My English skill has improved.
2.      Be more confident.
3.      Time management. After joining the program I become more discipline and respectful of time and always tried to come on time.
The challenges of practicum

A big challenge for me is teaching Science especially physics in English language which is not my mother language. Use English as our daily conversation, that’s help me to practice improve my English skill. Although there’s a basic grammar error and lose a vocabulary, I keep use English and sometimes slip out in to Bahasa Indonesia
Overall impression

I really enjoy this program. There’s a lot of new experience, knowledge, relations help me improve my teaching skill and English skill. Thai people is nice and greet us warmly, every time i met student’s they always said “Sawadee, Teacher Chan”

Suggestions for future improvement

For future improvement and suggestion, I think there’s should be a basic language course before going to teach in classroom. I just want to say thank you to SEAMEO who provided this exchange program, CRRU as my accepting university in this program, Chiang Rai Municipality school that give me a lot of new knowledge and experiences during this program, my home university, Tadulako University who gave me a special opportunity to me. And last but not least, to all of my friends that keep urge me and support me. One month is a short time! I really hope that I can stay longer only for this exchange.

Teaching Practice

It is my turn to stand in front of the student and start to teach! Of course, I felt nervous but when I saw the student’s eyes and they greeted me warmly, I told myself, “I can do it”. I’m still kept encouraging myself that I can teach this week. Last week, I've substances by my mentor during the class. So, I’m ready teaching based my own lesson plan and some of the improvisation. Procedures of Teaching The method that I used is a conventional method. I used Power Point and videos as media during teaching process. Then, worksheets are needed just to testify do they understand about the materials or not. They are smart students even though they don’t know they tried to keep do on their assignments. They tried to finish all of the assignments that already gave to them. For the first time I came to the classroom, the students greeted warmly. I let them sit down and ask about their feelings today. To keep their concentration, I told them if I said hello they should say...

The day before I go

August 4th, 2019 For the first time in my life, I study abroad and it is also the first time to travel by plane. Thailand is the first country that I have ever visited in my life, to be exactly in Chiang Rai Province. Everything in my head made me felt worried about anything. Firstly, it is about what am I to do in there? Absolutely to learn more about teaching, English for sure. No matter what happen, keep learning. Learn everything in there, whether is teaching style from every teachers or even Thai’s culture. Actually the last question will be the same, where can I find the mosque to pray for every Friday or how can I survive in there? That’s already a never ending questions because we worried about the food that’s actually we can’t eat but we try to learn more about how to ask someone where the Halal food restaurant around us. It is all about the questions, how do I have to survive in other country?
